Travelogue: Somewhere by the water
Now more then ever we must make the best of our time off; days spent far from electronic screens, and nights under new moonlight. How do we not waste our winter or summer escapades amongst tourist havens and the hospitality of far flung friends?
The novelty of a new culture can be jolted by the sting of selfie stick carrying, flag following sorts out to drink every drop of authenticity from their one day city tour. With more and more of the world traveling throughout local paradises, it gets hard to find anything preserved in its purity; a place where time and commerce offset one another to create a pocket free of reviews and reservations. A feeling that with some like minded spirits we might build a few weeks of blissful living, in the hope that every year we get better and better at that living.
When age makes time the commodity, it doesn't seem to make sense to keep spending time off in one place. The world has so much to offer and some of it is actually disappearing, why that town again and again? Maybe you get to a place where you know what you have is special and it is no longer an effort to resist the temptation of the novel and new. But what really matters when the sun is setting on the port, friends are laughing, and your biggest task is to choose between a spritz or a negroni?
